While most fifteen year olds were busy doing their homework, Sarah West was discovering electronic music. Although, not necessarily an experience unique to herself, it was the sounds of Sasha's 'San Francisco Global Underground' that provided the catalyst for a future love affair with dance music and it's culture.
Fortunately, thanks to Melbourne's varied electronic music scene, Sarah's tastes sample a broad selection of sounds and artists, pulling together a diverse group of influences. They range from melodic and uplifting Paul Van Dyk-esque progressive trance, through to the distorted basslines of Vitalic and the twisted grooves of Andy Page.
After a good innings on the wrong side of the DJ Booth, it was only a matter of time before Sarah wanted to check out the view from the other side. Having already collected records years before there was any financial possibility of her owning her own equipment, it wasn't until 2004 that Sarah graced the decks outside any bedroom/outhouse/barn/ or anything else not resembling a club. But unlike most DJ's, whose first gig, more often than not, involved some sort of wedding, function or distant friend's/long lost cousin's birthday, Sarah graced the decks at Melbourne's prestigious Room nightclub, just like many of her heroes and influences had done before her.
Because of her appreciation for diversity, Sarah is building a reputation for versatility. Being closely surrounded by some of Melbourne's finest she is regularly influenced and inspired and wants to pursue a sound and style of her own. Having recently just broadening her horizons internationally and playing as part of 'Melbourne Massive' at the Miami WMC, she's begun a musical journey that will be one to look out for.
